Weekend Football Betting Preview

Premier League

The top flight returns this week from its International break and a cracking bet is to be had at The DW Stadium, as Wigan Athletic host Sunderland. The Black Cats have made a steady start to the season, and with the signing of Asamoah Gyan, look set to kick on and really climb the table. Gyan and Darren Bent will form a formidable striking partnership, and with hosts Wigan having lost two from two at home already this league campaign, the 15/8 @ Blue Sq on an away win looks a steal.

Birmingham City welcome Liverpool to St Andrews on Sunday afternoon, and the smart money should be on a home victory for the Blues. Liverpool have lost their only away game this season so far, at Manchester City, and Birmingham, 100% at home so far, are a tough proposition under the leadership of Alex McLeish. 21/10 @ bet365 for the home win is an excellent value bet.

QPR lead the table on goal difference at present, and look like being able to keep that place theirs come the end of the weekend with a comfortable win over Middlesborough.  The Hoops are two for two at Loftus Road this season, and with a ‘Boro side that is languishing in mid table visiting on Saturday, having not even scored away from The Riverside, that 10% record should be extended. The 21/20 @ William Hill should be backed here.

Ipswich Town travel to the South Coast to take on rock bottom Portsmouth this weekend, and the visitors must be backed to emerge with the three points. The Tractor Boys have made a very impressive start to the season, unbeaten in the league so far with a 100% away record. Pompey have yet to record a victory, and looked doomed for relegation even at this stage of the campaign. Take the 11/8 @ totesport on the away win.
League One

Southampton take their troubles to the West Country for a game with Swindon Town, and although the form would back an away win, the inkling is for an upset here. Swindon may lie bottom of the league at present, but will take great heart from their 3-0 win at Southampton in the Cup a couple of weeks ago, and that may be enough to stir them on to record another famous win over the visitors. 17/10 @ William Hill represents fantastic value, and should be jumped on.

Bournemouth are the team to bet on football this year in League One for goals, with an amazing 20 of them in just five matches. They are sitting pretty in the upper echelons of the table at present and welcome Dagenham and Redbridge this weekend to their ground. D&R are struggling to get their season started, and with no points from two away games to their name, a home win seems a cert. However, the value bet here may well be the over 3.5 goals (12/5 @ William Hill), which seems a very attractive offer.
League Two

Shrewsbury Town visit Gillingham this weekend, and the odds look to be favoured on the away win here. Shrewsbury top the league at present with an unbeaten record, including a 100% away record, and look set to continue that at The Gills, who lie fourth bottom, with no wins to their name. Take the 13/8 @ Paddy Power for the Shrews to continue in their merry way with victory here.

Finally, a real value bet. Port Vale lie fourth in the table, however have yet to record a home victory, basing their early season form on a three game winning stretch away from home. Aldershot have yet to lose this season, but intriguingly have drawn their two away games so far this campaign. They visit Vale Park this Saturday, and the 12/5 @ bet365 for the draw is, to me, the bet of the weekend.
